In my efforts to demonstrate complementary relationships between secondary virtues, I’ve written about the link between physical fitness and cognitive performance. I’ve also claimed that anyone concerned with living an ethical life has reason to extend their life, and anyone with reason to extend their life should aspire to improved physical fitness (see “Why Be Fit? – Hedonism“, “Why Be Fit? – Altruism” and “What’s Your Fitness Age?“).
Some new research offers support for both of these claims. In particular:
1. Post-study exercise improves retention of information
2. Children with ADHD learn better while sitting on activity balls or exercise bikes
3. One hour of exercise per day reduces premature death by 39%
