
We like to imagine that being good at something will ultimately lead to success in some form: a higher salary, greater opportunities, self-satisfaction. At the very least, hard work and skill should combine to allow you to continue in your chosen field. But that does not appear to be the case for Shannon Miller, former head coach of the #7 ranked women’s hockey team at University of Minnesota Duluth and another example of the inequality that still plagues women in the workforce, especially in athletics. She was too good at her job, and the school could not afford to pay her.
